Amarillo, TX (April 26, 2024) - On Wednesday, April 24, a driver was killed after a two-vehicle collision in the Amarillo area. The deadly accident took place early that morning around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Amarillo Boulevard and Folsom Road. Local reports revealed that a tan Chevrolet pickup truck was heading westbound on Amarillo as a semi-truck and trailer carrying a base to a wind turbine traveled south on Folsom.
The Chevy collided with the side of the trailer. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. The driver of the pickup sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the crash. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials, and more updates will be provided as it continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Texas had 643 truck-related fatalities in 2020, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS). Of those, 342 — more than half — were operating a different vehicle. An estimated 108 were passengers in other vehicles. More than 60 of these deaths were cyclists or pedestrians. It should come as no surprise that over half of the deaths involved speeds of at least 65 miles per hour, making up nearly 300 of these deadly collisions. However, the real figure is probably more than 300 because there were a few instances where the speed was neither reported nor known. If someone close to you is unfairly killed in a semi-truck accident, you should partner with a trained lawyer to pursue a wrongful death claim.
In terms of deadly commercial vehicle accidents, Texas leads the country. Crashes involving large semis and 18-wheelers are often some of the most terrifying and destructive. Due to their size, 18-wheelers and semi-trucks inflict enormous damage, fatalities, and serious injuries. Contacting an accident attorney for assistance may be the last thing on your mind after losing someone close to you in a truck accident. Nevertheless, your trucking accident attorney can fight to get you the money you are due to pursue justice during this difficult time. Wrongful death claims can offer some solace to help you deal with your recovery.
