Three More Medical Mistakes Made by Dallas Doctors

In yesterday’s blog post, our Dallas medical malpractice lawyers discussed four types of medical errors made by doctors in Texas. Here are three more medical mistakes that may endanger your health.

  1. Misdiagnosis of Fracture or Traumatic Injury: What happens when a doctor assumes your injury is minor and doesn't screen for more serious injuries? This often occurs when a doctor assumes, based on the way you sustained your injury, that you have a sprain or strain rather than a fracture. In some cases, an undiagnosed fracture can result in a worsening of the injury leading to disability or even amputation.
  2. Medication Errors or Negligent Drug Treatment: Medication errors are a leading cause of Texas medical malpractice deaths. Examples of medication errors include prescribing the wrong drug, prescribing the wrong dose, prescribing a drug for a non-approved use, prescribing a drug to which a patient has a known allergy, or prescribing a drug that should not be taken with the patient’s existing medications.
  3. Failure to Obtain Informed Consent: When you undergo a medical procedure or are prescribed a drug, you expect to be told of any potential risks and any alternative treatments. When a doctor doesn't inform you of the expected outcomes and potential risks of a treatment and you suffer a preventable injury, the doctor can be held liable.

When a doctor’s mistake compromises your health and well-being, you have a right to accountability and compensation.
