Sisters Aged 5 and 7 Killed in Mount Pleasant Car Accident

Two children killed in Mount Pleasant, Texas car accident.

The Mount Pleasant car accident happened at about 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013. Thirty-seven-year-old Dawn Marie Adams of Mount Pleasant was headed east on Texas 49. Her daughters, Chloe Elizabeth Adams, 5, and Emmarie Dawn Adams, 7, were in the car. Mrs. Adams stopped in the inside lane of Highway 49 and waited at the intersection to make a left turn onto CR 4230. While she was stopped at the intersection, a 1995 Dodge pickup truck driven by 74-year-old Herbert Parr (also of Mount Pleasant) rear-ended her 2010 Camry.
Chloe Elizabeth was killed by the impact. Emmarie Dawn sustained critical blunt force trauma injuries. She was taken by helicopter to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. She was then transferred to Children's Hospital in Dallas. Emmarie died from her injuries just after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9th. Mrs. Adams was taken by ambulance to Titus Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Mr. Parr was uninjured.
All three were wearing safety belts.  But even safety belts could not protect the family from the force of the crash.
The Department of Public Safety is investigating the tragic accident. DPS has announced that it plans to charge Mr. Parr with criminally negligent homicide. Criminally negligent homicide is a state jail felony punishable with up to two years in jail and $10,000 in fines.
