Megabus Hits Bridge, Killing One and Injuring Dozens More

A Megabus struck  bridge pillar in Illinois on Thursday, killing one and injuring dozens more.
According to those on the scene, the double-decker bus was so damaged that rescue crews had to use a ladder to get to those on the top deck.  At least 38 were hospitalized.  Tragically, Aditi R. Avhad was killed in the crash.

While an economical and convenient means of travel, it’s always important to recognize the dangers bus travel pose.  Anytime a vehicle that large and moving at those speeds gets in a wreck, the possibility of catastrophic injuries and death are high.
The immediate cause of the wreck is not readily apparent, but you can be sure there will be a thorough investigation into the driver, the safety precautions and the events that led to this awful accident.
Our heart goes out to the Ahvad family and those who knew Aditi.  We also want to wish all of those who were hurt, more than half of all the passengers, a speedy recovery.
Any solution for easing the congestion on our roadways is great and Megabus is no different.  Unfortunately, accidents are always a risk, especially when you put your life in another driver’s hands.
