The accident, which was reported at around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, occurred in the 14200 block of Sendera Ranch Boulevard in Fort Worth. At least one of the two injured children was walking on the sidewalk when, according to police, 28-year-old Laura Martin lost control of her Ford Expedition, struck the two 11-year-old girls and drove through a brick wall before coming to a stop in the back yard of a residence.
According to witness reports, Martin had struck at least one vehicle on a neighboring street before driving the wrong way onto Sendera Ranch Blvd (a four-lane divided road). Witnesses say she then crossed the median, knocked down a school zone signal light and a tree before striking the two girls and crashing through the brick wall.
One of the girls was treated by paramedics at the scene of the accident. The other victim was taken by air ambulance (CareFlite) to Cook Children's Medical Center in critical condition with head and leg injuries.
The SUV's driver, Laura Martin, was taken by ground ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital with neck and back injuries. She was arrested after being released from the Hospital and charged with intoxication assault.
