Most of us seldom question whether or not the items we buy regularly are risk-free. Unfortunately, many consumer goods are incorrectly designed, manufactured, or marketed. These blunders might result in serious harm or […]
Grocery stores are usually full of hazards. It's up to the owners to make sure that their patrons are as safe as possible and, to that end, they have to keep floors clear, clean and free of slippery substances. This means more work for them, but the consequences can be severe if they don’t keep up with the task.
Some of the most significant dangers in grocery stores come from the stacks of items that tend to be left out in the middle of floors to advertise sales. If these stacks aren't secured properly, they can become dangerously unbalanced when people start picking items off of them. A fallen jar or bottle can mean a wet floor and that can mean serious injuries for the people that pass by. To make sure that you're not at risk, keep an eye out for any hazards that you may see out on the sales floor.
Watch out in the bathrooms, as well. Even very clean grocery stores sometimes have bathrooms that are poorly maintained. These bathrooms can become major hazards if you're not paying attention. Watch out for water on the floor and for trip hazards that people may have dropped next to the garbage can.
When you're browsing the aisles, be sure to report any spilled or broken items you see. Grocery stores are usually very fast to clean such items up, but they sometimes get missed. Remember that the area nearby such items can be particularly hazardous, so you want to be sure to steer well clear of any broken items. The glass presents another hazard, of course, and you'll want to make sure that you avoid stepping on it or falling into it.
If you are injured in a grocery store slip and fall accident, the owner of the premises might be liable for negligence. Talk to a personal injury attorney about the matter and see if they feel that you have a good option for filing a lawsuit in front of you. In instances where someone is actually killed because of a bad slip and fall, you should contact a wrongful death attorney. They can help you to go after the establishment for damages and, in cases where someone is actually killed because of a negligent store owner, there's no reason that the family should have to bear that burden on their own and without financial support from the person or store responsible.
