Amherst, TX (August 1, 2023) - On Monday, July 31, a truck driver was killed after his rig collided with a train outside of Amherst.
The fatal accident was reported on Highway 84 near County Road 125 early that morning at around 11 a.m. Local sources later revealed that a 25-year-old man from Borger was traveling southbound in a semi-truck. The man was crossing a railroad track when his rig was hit by an oncoming train.
The trucker sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders were dispatched to transport the victim to UMC, but the man succumbed to his injuries while en route to the medical facility.
A total of five train cars were derailed due to the crash. The site cleanup reportedly took several hours, but the area has since been cleared. The identity of the deceased has been withheld.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is in progress. More information will be provided as it continues.
