Truck Entrance Areas Present Danger

Whether you are in Dallas or outside of the city, you’re likely to come across places on the roadways where warehouses, farms, supermarkets and other businesses have entryways set up for semi trucks to unload or take on loads. Truck entrance areas can be particularly dangerous for other vehicles on the roadways. In fact, Texas truck wreck lawyers handle a lot of claims filed by people who have been injured in one of these areas. While filing a lawsuit for compensation might be the best possible move after you have been in an accident, avoiding the accident altogether is always preferable. Here are some ways to do that.

Watch the Signs

There are oftentimes warning signs alongside the roads to alert drivers to the fact that there may be trucks entering or exiting a roadway. Pay attention to these. Whenever you do see a semi ahead of you or coming toward you, pay extra attention to what the driver is doing. Be particularly wary if there are corners that prevent you from seeing through them, which can set up situations where you suddenly come upon a semi-entering or leaving a side road.

Anticipate the Unexpected

In areas where construction equipment or other heavy equipment is being used, you may see some of that equipment out on the roadway in unexpected ways. A semi truck, for instance, needs to make wide right-hand turns. If the driver has to turn onto a small side road, they may very well cross into the left lane for a bit in the process of making that turn. Pay extra attention and don’t assume that you see what you think you are seeing on the roadway ahead of you. Look for anything that seems out of place and be particularly wary of reduced speed limits that are sometimes put into place nearby such areas.
While many of the accidents that are caused in areas where construction equipment, semi trucks and other heavy vehicles are entering and leaving roadways are due to speeding and other careless behavior, the company’s doing the work do have some obligations, as well. If you have been injured because there was improper signage or no signage near a dangerous area, because equipment drivers were operating their equipment erratically or for some other reason that seems like negligence may be an underlying cause, you may want to consider contacting a semi crash attorney about suing the company responsible for operating the equipment and maintaining safety around areas where it is employed.
