Takes These Steps if you See a Speeding Truck

semi1 - iStock_000004951806SmallThis week, we’ve been talking about why commercial trucks speed, why speeding trucks can be more dangerous than other speeding vehicles, and how speeding trucks cause accidents. Today, we’ll look at what you should do if you see a speeding commercial truck on the highway or interstate.

  • Keep your distance. Because of its size and weight, a speeding truck is very difficult to turn, slow down, or stop. In other words, a speeding truck is just one step away from an out-of-control truck. Don’t get too close and do not attempt to pass it.
  • Look for company information. If a truck is going dangerously fast, you should contact the trucker’s company. Either note the company and the license plate or look for a phone number to call on the back of the vehicle. Wait to make the call until you have stopped driving.
  • Call the police. If the truck is traveling at reckless speeds, the big rig is an immediate threat to the safety of others on the road. In these cases – especially if the commercial truck is displaying other careless driving behavior – call 911 immediately to report the incident.
