San Augustine, TX (September 1, 2023) - A Shelby County deputy was killed after a crash involving a tractor-trailer in San Augustine on Tuesday, August 29.
The deadly accident occurred near the intersection of TX-103 and TX-147 early that morning at around 7:30 a.m. The 25-year-old sheriff’s deputy was traveling northbound in a marked patrol vehicle when he was hit by a westbound 2014 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer. The patrol car crashed into the trailer of the commercial rig.
The area was completely shut down while emergency responders were present. The injured deputy suffered fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead.
The identity of the deceased has been withheld. No further information has been provided at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is in progress. More information will be made public as it progresses.
