Oil Rig Rolls Over on Vehicle, Two Dead

A 54-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son were killed when an oil rig rolled over on their vehicle on US 281 near Brownsville.

It's unclear what caused the accident, according to the Star-Telegram. The truck accident also involved the three-year-old granddaughter of the driver, who was taken to the hospital following the accident but who was conscious and in stable condition, according to the report.
Investigators are still looking into what caused the accident. It is, however, demonstrative of just how dangerous accidents involving semi trucks can be. These large vehicles pose a significant threat to the other drivers on the road and, sometimes, things go wrong with these vehicles for reasons that are not entirely clear.

Drivers and big rigs.

Even the best semi-truck driver in the world cannot do their job correctly if their vehicle is not maintained up to standards. For both the drivers and the rigs that they drive up and down the freeways, there are strict safety standards in place. These govern how much of a rest period that a driver must be given after working a certain amount of hours and how the rig must be maintained to ensure safety.
There are cases where the driver or the company for which they work does not live up to the safety standards. When this is the case, the victims of the accidents that these drivers sometimes end up causing may decide to sue the company that the driver works for, the driver themselves or another entity due to having a loved one hurt or injured.
