Most of us seldom question whether or not the items we buy regularly are risk-free. Unfortunately, many consumer goods are incorrectly designed, manufactured, or marketed. These blunders might result in serious harm or […]
A line of trampolines sold exclusively at the Toys "R" Us line of stores has been recalled as of May 17, 2012. A press release from United States Consumer Product Safety Commission gives details on the products, which include about 40,000 in total.
The products affected are the First Fitness Trampolines with Handlebars. These are trampolines designed for children, which have a red and blue handlebar. The trampoline has a black jumping deck and a blue nylon deck guard. The affected models have the words "First Fitness" embossed on the jumping deck. On the lower right corner of the packaging for the toy, you'll find the model number. The affected model number is FF-6902TR. You can also identify the affected products by the Toys "R" Us SKN number 491463.
First Fitness Trampolines with Handlebars have been shown to pose a hazard involving the handlebars themselves. According to the press release, metal fatigue can cause the handlebar to break. There may be sharp surfaces that pose a threat of lacerations as a result of this failure. As of the time of the recall, however, there have been no injuries. There were four instances where the handlebars were reported to have broken.
Aqua-Leisure Industries Inc., of Avon, Massachusetts is the manufacturer of the trampolines. The trampolines, however, were manufactured in China.
If you have one of these products, you're advised to contact Aqua-Leisure's recall hotline immediately and you will be given a full refund. It is illegal to try to sell any product that was recalled. If you do have one of these products, you are advised to stop using it immediately.
When manufacturers put dangerous products onto the market, they can be held liable for the damages that they cause. Defective children's toys are all too common. If everything works as it should, the toy is recalled before anybody is injured. There are always cases, however, were somebody is not notified or somebody ends up being injured by a toy that was not identified as dangerous and was not already the subject of a recall.
If your child has been injured by a toy, be sure to contact an attorney about the matter. They may be able to help you file a lawsuit against the manufacturer. If you win, the money you receive may be enough to pay for your medical expenses, pain and suffering and to ensure that your family doesn't end up paying the cost for an injury that was a result of somebody else's negligence.
