Most of us seldom question whether or not the items we buy regularly are risk-free. Unfortunately, many consumer goods are incorrectly designed, manufactured, or marketed. These blunders might result in serious harm or […]
Baby Trend has recalled several models of its car seats due to a safety flaw that may result in inadequate protection being provided to the child. The devices include the 6400 Rigid Latch-Loc Base, the 6439 Rigid Latch-Loc, the 6488 Rigid Latch-Loc and the 6481 Rigid Latch-Loc.
The reason that these items are being recalled is because the incorrect steel was used on the locking pawl for the latch connector, according to the recall notice. Because of this, the locking pawl could potentially crack during an accident, meaning that the child would not have the proper level of protection during a wreck.
This recall has been going on for some time, but is still in effect. The manufacturer will contact people who have purchased this device and will replace the defective part for free. If you happen to own one of these devices, you can also contact the manufacturer at 1-800-328-7363. You can find more information about this recall under NHTSA No: 08C008000.
If you happen to own one of these devices, you need to stop using it immediately. Because it does have a known safety deficiency, you cannot count on it providing your child with adequate protection. In order to make sure that you have the defective product, take a look at the model number and see if it matches up with the recall notice. You can also contact the manufacturer and ask them directly.
It's illegal to sell any device that has been the subject of a recall, so be certain that you're not considering getting rid of this particular device in a garage sale or an online auction. You can get it fixed for free, however, which means that the purchase is not a total loss and that it can be remedied.
If your child has suffered injury because of one of these devices, you may want to consider contacting aautomobile defect lawyer. Child restraints and seatbelts are the most important safety equipment in your car. If you don't have either functioning as intended, you and your children are in a situation where you can easily be hurt or killed in an accident that would otherwise be survivable. Having a lawyer take a look at your situation may reveal that you do have a good lawsuit on your hands and that you could stand to win compensation for the damages your family has suffered.
