Reports from DPS show that at around 2 a.m., 40-year-old James Duke VanLue was flying in a Piper aircraft from Tomball to Zavalla when his plane clipped some trees and crashed just north of the runway. Crews discovered the wreckage around 12:30 p.m. VanLue was declared deceased at the scene. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
