According to reports, the car accident occurred at around 6:48 a.m. in the westbound lane of Farm to Market Road 1716, just eight miles outside of Tatum, TX. A 2001 GMC truck driven by 37-year-old Kenneth Steele, of Tyler, was traveling eastbound on FM 1716 when it crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup head-on. The Silverado ended up rolling over and coming to a rest on its side, while the GMC came to a stop in the middle of the road and was then struck by a 2014 Dodge 1500 pickup truck traveling eastbound.
The driver of the GMC truck, Kenneth Steele, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Chevy Silverado, 40-year-old Angila Ray of Gilmer, was transported to a Longview hospital with unknown injuries and was listed in stable condition. The two occupants of the Dodge 1500 pickup, 45-year-old Roger Dean Clark of Longview and an 11-year-old boy, were also treated and released at the scene.
