Initial reports found that at least two people suffered injuries in the collision. The area was closed for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Two big rigs and another vehicle were reportedly involved in the accident. The impact forced one of the cabs of the big rig trucks to detach and plunge over the bridge into the Trinity River. The driver of that truck and another involved party were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of sustained injuries.
The other trailer burst into flames, and HAZMAT teams were called to assist. No additional information on the accident is currently available. Local law enforcement officials are managing an ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash, and more updates will be provided as it continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
18-Wheeler Crashes in Texas
It is never easy to share the road with a large commercial truck. Everyone knows how devastating these vehicles can be in the event of a crash. Unfortunately, Texas residents are all too familiar with severe semi-truck accidents. The state is the site of nearly 10 percent of trucking accidents reported nationwide each year. Commercial trucks travel billions of miles annually across the state’s roads. In 2022, 5,846 18-wheeler collisions were reported in the Lone Star State, according to data from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). California has the second-highest number of truck-related crashes, but Texas experiences nearly double the number of 18-wheeler accidents.
The aftermath of a serious trucking accident can be overwhelming. These types of crashes are known to result in life-changing injuries. Statistics show that those traveling in smaller passenger cars are more likely to suffer more severe injuries in the event of a trucking accident.
