How Will Cerebral Palsy Affect my Baby?

Some of the consequences of cerebral palsy in infants are devastating. If your child has suffered baby brain damage due to medical negligence, you should speak with an attorney to see if you have the option of filing a lawsuit. If you do, you may stand to win a jury award or a settlement that will end up providing enough compensation to pay for the cost of ongoing medical treatment and the other expenses associated with suffering a chronic and serious disorder.

Expenses

If a child has cerebral palsy, you can expect face very significant medical expenses throughout their life. Not only will they have to pay for the costs of medications, doctor's visits and physical therapy, they will have to pay for the costs of assistive devices for walking, hearing and other purposes. They will also likely have to pay more for housing and, in some cases, they will have to pay to have somebody live with them to provide full-time care.
Remember, many people with cerebral palsy have a very difficult time with mobility, which means that they will only be able to select housing that can accommodate individuals with handicaps, which narrows their choices and oftentimes means that they end up having to pay more for that housing.

Earning

Depending upon the severity of the injury, an individual with cerebral palsy may have vastly diminished earning potential or they may have no earning potential to speak of. This means that, without a regular income, they have to find other ways to pay for the expenses of life. While most of them will qualify for some type of medical assistance or another, this may not be adequate to cover effective treatments and may only cover the very basic aspects of living.
If someone you love has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and if you believe that medical negligence played a role in them having suffered that injury, you owe it to yourself to speak with an attorney to see if you have the option of filing a lawsuit. That lawsuit, if it is successful, may result in your child receiving enough money from a jury award or from a settlement to pay for effective treatments and to ensure that they never have to worry about going without. In some cases, these jury awards end up being well into the millions of dollars and can help an individual with cerebral palsy live a very full life.
