1: Assistive walking devices.

Walking devices can be very costly. Walkers, crutches, wheelchairs and other devices can cost into the thousands of dollars and that means that families have to be prepared to deal with thee expenses. The more freedom a child with CP has to explore the world themselves and to make friends on their own, the richer their life is. Being mobile is a huge part of having this freedom.

2: Educational needs.

There are definitely cases of cerebral palsy where the sufferer has severe mental impairments. There are also cases of cerebral palsy where, with a little bit of extra assistance, the sufferer will be able to go on and earn very advanced degrees. There are medical doctors who have cerebral palsy. For parents, being able to accommodate their child special educational needs may mean the difference between them achieving such dreams or falling short. The cost of tutors and special education can be very high, in some cases.

3: Medical treatments.

Muscle spasm is the most distinctive symptom of cerebral palsy. The muscle spasms are sometimes uncontrollable and very painful. Even when they're not painful, it's still common for the muscle spasms to make it impossible for the sufferer to do anything on their own until they pass. It may take several days for these episodes to pass. Other medical treatments include assistive devices for hearing, hot and cold treatments to loosen muscles, physical therapy and potentially many other types of medical treatments. As you can imagine, this can get incredibly expensive very quickly.
In some cases, birth injuries are the direct results of negligence on the part of physicians. If your child has cerebral palsy, contact a Dallas cerebral palsy attorney to talk to them about the circumstances of the birth. The investigation following the diagnosis of cerebral palsy may have pointed toward medical negligence and, if that is the case, you should definitely speak to an attorney about the matter.
