When you're out on the road, other drivers aren't the only hazards you need to take precautions against. To avoid a Dallas car accident, keep a sharp eye out for other common hazards. In doing so, you can ensure that the roads remain safe for you, your family and neighbors, as well as other community members.
During the summer, bicycles become one of the most popular modes of transportation. They're also one of the easiest to miss and subsequently hit if you're not looking out for them. Active bikers commonly employ bicycle safety by wearing bright colors, safety gear such as helmets and reflectors, and are well aware of the rules of the road. Casual bikers, however, are far less likely to implement the same safety precautions and do not have the same experience and expertise bicycling, making them more of a hazard on the roads.
To prevent injury and accidents, be sure to check for bicyclists in your blind spot when making a right turn. Watch out for them at stop signs in residential areas, and always be aware of your surroundings. Experienced bicyclists understand and generally obey traffic laws and procedures. It's the casual bicyclists that are the biggest hazards to themselves and others.
Oftentimes, people attach trailers to their cars, trucks, or SUVs without attaching the wiring harnesses that activate the trailer's brake lights and turn signals. This creates a huge hazard. Whenever you see a trailer behind a vehicle, go ahead and assume it's hooked up incorrectly. In many cases, your assumption will be correct, and you'll be prepared should the trailer come to a sudden stop without brake lights or make a turn without signaling. It's also advisable to be mindful of the load the trailer is carrying as it may not be strapped down properly.
During the summer, people will be outside more, so make an extra effort to be an alert and vigilant driver. Particularly in residential areas, you'll want to pay attention to the periphery of the road. Pedestrians may be walking or jogging and step out into traffic unexpectantly. Anytime a child is present, be sure to keep your speed down until you pass.
Sometimes, accidents happen. If someone injures you on the roads, and you believe it was because of negligence, contact a car accident lawyer. They can help you pursue legal action against the driver and assess whether you are likely to receive compensation for injuries sustained.
