One woman is dead and two men have been charged with negligent homicide in Andrews, Texas this week. What happened? Texas police believe that street racing was possibly the cause of the accident. According to witnesses, the two men were driving their cars side-by-side at high rates of speed on Main Street when 48-year-old Irma Macias unknowingly turned left in front of the racing cars. Macias was killed and the two men were arrested.
Illegal street racing and illegal drag racing have been romanticized and glamorized by the media and by unrealistic Hollywood films like The Fast and the Furious. However, street racing is unlawful and extremely dangerous – both for those who participate in the races and for those who are innocently using the streets where the races take place.
