New Braunfels, TX - Sevannah Shay Mata Killed in Crash on TX-46

New Braunfels, TX (November 2, 2020) – A head-on collision reported on Sunday claimed the life of one woman and led to the arrest of one driver. At approximately 2:15 a.m., on November 1, the New Braunfels Police Department was called to the site of a crash on Texas State Highway 46.

Reports show that 33-year-old Jacob Perez was driving a white pickup truck, with his 6-year-old daughter, in the 2500 block of Texas State Highway 46. Perez, who was traveling northbound, veered into the southbound lane of the roadway and struck a blue sedan head-on near the intersection with Center Street.

The impact of the crash caused the pickup truck to roll over onto its side. The young child sustained minor injuries in the crash and was provided treatment at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) for the treatment of injuries. A passenger in the car, identified as 28-year-old Sevannah Shay Mata, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Perez was transported to an area hospital for a blood test and found to be under the influence. He is facing charges for intoxication manslaughter. At this time, investigations surrounding the crash are underway.
