KRISTV reports that a man who stopped to assist another motorist who was involved in a car crash ended up losing his leg due to injuries sustained during the incident.
The incident, which occurred in West Palm Beach, Florida, occurred when the motorist pulled over to help the victim of a car crash in October. He managed to pull the man away from the car accident scene, but another vehicle slammed into them, pinning the helper to a truck and eventually ending up costing him his leg.
Even though anybody who survives a car accident is lucky to walk away with their life, the medical bills from car accidents can be staggering. Tens of thousands of dollars or more in medical damages are not uncommon. Because a car accident can end up causing such significant damage to the people involved, those people may end up suffering enormous financial hardships in addition to the other hardships that they suffer.
In the best case scenario, an affected driver will have insurance that will step in and help them pay for the medical costs related to the accident. Sometimes, however, insurance companies may resist paying what their clients are owed for various reasons or the driver who was actually responsible for causing the accident may not even have insurance, making it extremely difficult for the drivers that they injure to get reimbursed.
The best way to deal with a situation like this is to speak with an attorney about the matter. The attorney may be able to determine whether or not it's worth it for you to file a lawsuit against a negligent driver in the space of one consultation. If not, they can take the information they get from you during the consultation and use that to determine whether or not filing a lawsuit would be worth your while.
