Injuries to the head (especially the brain) are serious, and can change the trajectory of your life. The brain is the master controller of the body, so any injury to it can lead to a number of physical and mental complications that can last for a long time, if not permanently. These types of injuries often require a considerable amount of medical care and rehabilitation, and our job is to help you and your family recover the compensation you need.
While the brain is encased by a thick skull, trauma can still cause the fragile brain to move within the skull and compress, causing concussions, blunt force trauma, blood clots, brain stem herniation, and even strokes caused by intracerebral hemorrhaging. These complications must be treated in a timely manner to avoid permanent loss of brain function and cognitive dimming.
A car accident can cause a concussion in a number of ways. A collision can cause a person to hit their head on the steering wheel, windshield, the back of a seat or any other hard surface. Rollover accidents often lead to concussions and skull fractures due to the violent nature of such a crash.
Some of the symptoms which may point to a concussion or brain injury after an accident include the following:

It's important not to ignore these symptoms because if not addressed soon enough, they may lead to serious cognitive problems (possibly even paralysis) a few weeks or months down the line. If you notice ANY of the above warning signs after a serious accident, speak to a neurologist immediately. In addition, concussions in the very young and very old put them at a much higher risk of developing serious complications, and extra precautions should always be taken with children and elderly victims.
A cerebral contusion is one form of traumatic brain injury (TBI), and is caused by an impact or blow to the head in the seconds after a collision, resulting in bruising of the brain or even bleeding. As a result, micro hemorrhages are not uncommon, and swelling (known as edema) may be apparent after a medical exam. In such cases, you may need surgery to relieve brain pressure as well as close off any blood vessels that may have ruptured.
On the other hand, you may suffer what’s called a "coup-contrecoup" injury, where impact on one side of the head leads to your brain slamming into the other side of the skull. In this type of injury, you essentially have two contusions which will require immediate medical attention.
After suffering a serious head injury, you want to make sure that you protect your skull and brain by following these guidelines:
