The Most Dangerous Driving Situations

Most of the time, when you're advised of dangerous times to drive, the advice has to do with the conditions on the road or the time of day. Some of the most important conditions that any driver faces, however, originate within the vehicle.
There are times when even the most skilled of all drivers are real hazards behind the wheel, and you need to avoid putting yourself in a situation where you're a danger to yourself and others.

When you're angry.

When you're angry, you're not concentrating on the road, you're concentrating on being angry. Anger involves a lot of adrenaline, and when your body is full of adrenaline, it always takes precedence over anything else that may be going on. This means that you're not able to focus on the road, and worse, you may take that anger out by driving foolishly. If you're angry, cool off before you get behind the wheel for your own sake.

When you're tired.

Driving tired is every bit as dangerous as driving drunk. Your reflexes are slow, your mind can't focus and you're at risk of dozing off. When you start to feel tired, either pull over and nap for a bit or call it day and sleep a full night. You need to make sure you're rested. This is particularly true when you're on long, boring stretches of highway. The inactivity of driving on such a road makes it very easy to fall asleep (highway hypnosis), and if you do, you're likely to be in a very bad wreck.

Driving While Distracted
Driving While Distracted

When you're distracted.

Being in a rush is a distraction when driving. When you're concentrating on where you need to be, you're not concentrating on how you're getting there. You need to be thinking of the road and only the road when you're driving, so it's best to make sure that you're not worried about your destination more than you are about the drivers and road in front of you.
