If you are involved in a car accident, the best way to deal with it will depend upon the situation. Depending on where the accident occurs, the extent of the damage and whether or not the cars are drivable, you'll have to take different measures to ensure that the scene is safe for everybody involved.
If the wreck is in an area where the traffic is very heavy, you want to make sure that you get the vehicles out of the path of traffic, if they can be moved. Provided that nobody is injured, simply pull over to the side of the road. If you're on the freeway, make sure that you stay as far away as possible from the lanes. While it's not apparent when you're driving, freeway traffic moves incredibly fast and kicked-up road debris is a genuine hazard.
As long as the vehicles are drivable, it's usually pretty easy to deal with these wrecks. There should be a convenient place to pull over where you and the other driver can get out of the way of traffic. If you turn onto a side street, be sure that you pull ahead from the corner so that you don't get rear ended by turning cars.
These are the easiest areas where handling a wreck is concerned. Even if the vehicles are immobilized, you can usually be out on the street for quite a while without really causing too much of a hazard.
Be sure to call a tow truck as quickly as possible after the wreck. The police will want to clear the lanes quickly, as well, to prevent other people from getting in wrecks with the vehicles involved in the crash. If anyone is injured, do not move them; wait for medical help to arrive.
A Dallas auto wreck lawyer may be able to help you with a lawsuit if the crash occurred because someone was a negligent driver. Be sure that you call one to see if this is the case. They may want you to come in for a consultation to see whether or not you have cause to file legal action. If they do, ask them about contingency agreements so that you can proceed without paying any upfront fees for their services.
