The deadly accident was reported near the crossing of Spruce Street and US-54 at around 9:20 p.m. It was reported that an 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on US-287 when it crashed head-on with an oncoming tractor-trailer. The impact caused one of the trucks to catch fire and explode.
Emergency responders were able to rescue the driver of the westbound semi through the window. They were treated at the scene by attending medical personnel. Authorities were not able to extricate the other truck driver as the vehicle was on its side. The trucker was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was closed for several hours while emergency responders were present. The identities of the involved parties have not been provided at this time.
