Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
For the American economy to function, commercial trucks like semi-trucks and tractor-trailers are essential. The drivers and passengers of smaller passenger vehicles frequently sustain serious injuries in collisions involving large commercial rigs. Hazardous goods are often transported throughout the nation by semi-trucks, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration states that 5,237 truck collisions resulted in fatalities in 2017. There were another 119,000 collisions that were severe enough to cause injuries. Standards are in place to provide a minimum level on Texas roadways, and these rules are particularly relevant to trucking companies. Professional truck drivers are required to complete specialized safety training and respect strict traffic laws. Unfortunately, corporations and drivers alike take shortcuts to boost their profits, even at the expense of threatening other drivers' lives. Due to the requirement to fulfill rigorous deadlines, commercial drivers occasionally continue to drive after their allotted working hours, and this means they are operating a massive rig without sufficient rest. When a truck driver disregards the traffic laws that other motorists are obligated to abide by, or when the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations are disregarded, tractor-trailer crashes can happen that leave innocent parties with life-threatening injuries.
