UPDATE 01/29/2015: Jury finds Benjamin Newman guilty of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He has been sentenced to 75 years in prison.
According to police, 22-year-old Benjamin Kevin Newman, of Dallas, was arrested after allegedly striking several pedestrians with his white sedan, and then fleeing the scene of the accident. The crash happened at around 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a business in the 3300 block of northbound Central Expressway, just north of Parker Road.
Witnesses report that the driver, Benjamin Newman, was at the bar Thursday evening and was "being difficult" with the bouncers. They say an agitated Newman circled the parking lot before striking the victims. Authorities say that it's unclear whether the collision was intentional, or caused by a loss of control.
Four people were reportedly injured. Two of the victims had minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics. One was transported to the hospital in serious condition, and another (Christopher Brigman) was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Chris Brigman succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, April 20th.
Benjamin Kevin Newman was later caught by police on Spring Creek Pkwy, and has been charged with driving while intoxicated and causing an accident involving injury. Additional charges are pending. Newman is in the Collin County Detention Center held on a $110,000 bond.
