Houston, TX - Two Killed in Wrong-way DUI Collision on US-59

Houston, TX (April 13, 2024) - Two drivers were killed after a wrong-way crash in the Houston area on Thursday, April 11. The deadly accident was reported early that morning around 4 a.m. on US-59 Eastex Freeway near George Bush International Airport. All northbound lanes were closed for several hours while emergency crews were present at the scene. 

Local reports revealed that a woman driving on the highway was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. The driver described as a woman between 20 and 24 collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle in the far left lane. The woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where she later succumbed to her injuries. The other driver, a 22-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The woman was likely intoxicated and reportedly drove nearly 10 minutes in the wrong direction before the crash. The identities of the involved parties have been withheld. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is underway.
