Dallas, TX (March 11, 2024) - Two people were killed and a driver arrested following a two-vehicle accident in the Dallas area on Saturday night, March 9. The accident took place at the corner of Centerville Road and Joaquin Drive that evening at around 10:40 p.m. The victims were traveling in a pickup truck when they entered the intersection to make a left turn.
The pickup was reportedly hit by Antonio Ortiz after he ran a stop sign. The driver of the truck, Milena Wilske, was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly after the crash, a third truck hit Ortiz’s vehicle. That driver was treated at the scene by attending medical personnel. Ortiz was taken to a hospital as a precaution, and he was charged with two counts of manslaughter. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is underway.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
Intersections are a part of most of our daily commutes. However, these areas of the road can be extremely dangerous and come with a heightened risk of a collision. Nearly 20 percent of fatal collisions in the United States take place at intersections, along with 50 percent of injury crashes. Stop signs and traffic signals are in place to help make these dangerous areas safer for everyone, but they only function when they are followed. Statistics show that there are nearly 700,000 crashes reported each year at stop sign-controlled intersections. Nearly one-third of these accidents result in injuries.
