Houston, TX - Teen Driver Killed in Rear-End Crash on Katy Fwy

Houston, TX (February 28, 2024) - On Monday, February 26, a teen driver was killed following a collision in the Houston area. The deadly accident was reported at the 5900 block of Katy Freeway that afternoon at around 1:05 p.m. Local reports indicated that a white Ford Ranger pickup truck was stopped on the highway when it was rear-ended by a white Ford Transit van. 

The 16-year-old driver of the truck was rushed to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead. Three 16-year-old female passengers in the car were also injured and transported to local hospitals for treatment. 

The young passengers told authorities that the driver had stopped to retrieve something that had fallen from the vehicle. The pickup was about to continue on the highway when the accident occurred. No further information has been provided. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is in progress.
