Gilmer, TX - Two Injured in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash at US-271 & Bear Rd

Gilmer, TX (January 8, 2024) - One person was killed and two were injured after a pileup crash involving a semi-truck in the Gilmer area. The deadly accident took place on US-271 near Bear Road in Upshur County at around 6 p.m. Local reports indicated that a semi-truck was traveling northbound approaching the intersection as a Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped to make a left turn. 

The truck driver attempted to avoid rear-ending the Jeep and swerved into southbound traffic where it collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck. The semi ultimately hit the Jeep as well. The 48-year-old driver of the Ford suffered fatal injuries in the collision. 

A 29-year-old woman and a juvenile in the Jeep were transported to a local hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. At this time, no updates on the fatal crash are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is in the hands of local law enforcement officials, and more updates will be released as it continues.
