Coleman, TX - One Killed, Another Hurt in 18-Wheeler Crash on US-67

Coleman, TX (November 24, 2023) - A San Antonio man was killed following a two-vehicle collision outside of Coleman on Tuesday, November 21.

The deadly collision took place on US-67 early that morning at around 6 a.m. Initial reports indicated that 48-year-old Phillip Scott Mayfield of San Antonio was driving a 2016 Ford F-350 pickup truck traveling westbound on the highway when he collided head-on with an oncoming 2009 Dire semi-trailer.

Mayfield suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the commercial truck, 57-year-old Demmit Clayborne Gray of Franklin, was injured and hospitalized at Coleman Medical Center for treatment.

No additional information on the deadly crash is available at this time. An ongoing investigation into the fatal collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials, and more information will be released as it continues.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Phillip Scott Mayfield at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Semi-Truck Crashes in Texas

Coleman, TX - One Killed, Another Hurt in 18-Wheeler Crash on US-67There is a good risk that a semi-truck crash will leave you with permanent injuries. Texas has an astonishingly high rate of trucking accidents. Statistics show that over ten percent of semi-truck collisions in the United States occur in the state. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) reports that there were 6,740 heavy truck crashes in the state in 2022, and the agency also reports that for every 15,000 large truck accidents, there are 2,000 injuries and 300 fatalities on average. In 2022, there were 566 fatal trucking accidents in Texas, which translated into 649 fatalities.

If you need to pursue a personal injury claim involving a truck accident, you should know that many times, these types of cases settle rather than go all the way to trial. Your attorney will only counsel against settling your case if the insurance company is not making a reasonable offer. A lawsuit may be necessary if you sustained serious injuries, because your overall costs and losses may be vast. Your recuperation can take several months or even years. It is imperative that the settlement you receive is sufficient to allow you to start over and heal fully.

What happened, how it happened, and how the event affected you are all factors that go into determining compensation. Cases involving truck accidents fall under the broader purview of personal injury law and are predicated on negligence. You may also be entitled to compensation for your past and future medical expenses in addition to lost wages and compensatory damages. To find out how much your case is worth, you should always speak with an attorney.

An 18-wheeler or other large rig collision can have catastrophic results, and it is possible that you require monetary compensation to make up for your losses. Following a catastrophic transportation accident, the lawyers at the Rasansky Law Firm have assisted clients from all throughout Texas in fully recovering. Make sure the lawyer you are working with is experienced in handling 18-wheeler injury cases.
