Midland, TX (November 11, 2023) - A Gaines County jailer was hurt following a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck in the Midland area on Saturday, November 4.
The crash was reported on TX-349 NB that morning at around 7 a.m. Local reports revealed that a Ford flatbed truck, a Toyota pickup, a Peterbilt truck hauling a trailer and a Gaines County Chevrolet Tahoe were involved in the collision. The flatbed was traveling north as it slowed to make a left turn onto a side road when it was hit from behind by the Toyota.
The crash caused the Ford to fall onto the roadway. A northbound semi-truck hit the debris resulting from the impact and experienced a tire blowout. The blowout caused the 18-wheeler to veer into southbound traffic where it hit the Chevy driven by the victim.
The jailer was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. No additional information has been provided at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress, and more information will be provided as it continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
There are a number of deadly transportation accidents reported each year in Texas. The state is the site of nearly 10 percent of all fatal trucking accidents in the United States each year. Statistics show that for every 15,000 semi-truck incidents, there are usually 300 fatalities and 2,000 injuries. In 2022, there were over 19,000 commercial vehicle collisions registered in the state. These incidents led to a total of 3,820 injuries and 685 fatalities.
