An infant and a toddler were killed in a Dallas car accident on I-35E when the vehicle they were riding in ran out of gas and was rear-ended by an oncoming car. Seven other people were injured in the Texas traffic accident.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and other local news sources, seven people were driving in a Chevrolet Cavalier on Interstate 35 near the Ann Arbor Avenue exit when the vehicle ran out of gas. The driver allegedly did not turn on their hazard lights and did not move out of a traffic lane. While the car was waiting for gas, another car struck it from behind. The Cavalier left the roadway and struck a light pole.
Two children in the Cavalier, 4-month-old Nebriyah Bates and 4-year-old Tey-Onna Burnley, died in the accident, while the five other people in the car were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. Two people in the second car suffered minor injuries.
A Dallas County grand jury will decide if the 22-year-old driver of the car should face negligent homicide charges for running out of gas, staying in the traffic lane, and failing to use her emergency lights.
