A large truck can cause complete devastation in the event of a collision. In Texas, there were approximately 23,000 truck-related accidents in 2016. There were 452 fatal truck-tractors, or semi-truck trailer crashes in 2019, and a total of 1,435 accidents involving semi-trucks transporting freight occurred in that year. According to 2018 research, Texas is home to 11 of the 50 most hazardous segments of highway in the country, meaning that the very infrastructure increases the risk of being seriously injured in a crash involving a semi-truck.
A person's loss of life as a result of the purposeful or unintentional behavior of another is referred to as a wrongful death. A person or entity may be held accountable for wrongful death if it was due directly to their actions. As wrongful death claims are unrelated to criminal proceedings, the victim's family may still be able to file a civil lawsuit for wrongful death even if the offender is found not guilty on all counts. The surviving family members or other real parties of interest may file a wrongful death claim on behalf of the deceased to recover pain and suffering, medical costs, funeral costs, and lost wages, regardless of whether there was a vehicle accident or semi-truck crash.
