15 Dead in Texas Pickup Truck Crash, Tire Likely to Blame

Fifteen people died in a catastrophic Texas pickup truck accident near Goliad, a rural area outside of San Antonio.

Authorities investigating the crash say that the fatal accident was likely caused by a separated tire and that many of those killed were undocumented aliens.
The motor vehicle accident took place on U.S. Highway 59 North in the late hours of Sunday night, July 22. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the driver, 22-year-old Ricardo Mendoza-Pineda, was transporting 23 immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras into the United States illegally. The crash occurred when authorities believe the front right tire of the truck separated, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and drive off of the road. The truck crashed into two trees.
Multiple people were thrown 50 to 60 feet from the bed of the truck, while at least six people were trapped inside the cab of the truck. Eleven people died at the scene of the accident, while another 11 were airlifted to local hospitals for treatment. Four others have since died. Among them were at least three children.
It is not clear whether the tire separation was caused by an old tire or by a manufacturing issue.
The attorneys at Rasansky Law Firm extend their deepest condolences to the family members and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
