Arlington, TX - Paula Penigar Killed in Pedestrian Accident on I-20

Arlington, TX (August 15, 2020) – At approximately 1:20 p.m., on August 13, the Arlington Police Department responded to the site of a collision on Interstate 20.

Reports provided by authorities show that 53-year-old Paula Penigar, who works for the Texas State Department of Transportation, was clearing trash and debris from the median along Interstate 20, near the intersection with Collins Street. At the same time, an SUV and a Jeep were traveling west along the highway. As the SUV attempted to change lanes, it collided with the Jeep, causing the SUV driver to lose control and leave the roadway. The SUV went into the median and struck Penigar.

Penigar sustained fatal injuries in the accident and was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV was found to be impaired at the time of the crash. Police arrested the driver and they were charged with suspicion of intoxication manslaughter. At this time, investigations are ongoing.
