Five Ways to Avoid Food Poisoning in Texas

We would like to think that any food that we purchased at the grocery store, farmers’ market, or restaurant would be safe for consumption; however, this is not always the case. The good news is that you can avoid many dangerous, tainted foods simply by taking a few simple precautions.

  • Clean your food thoroughly. Even if your food product says that it has been washed, wash it again. Don’t just run water over your fruits and vegetables; be sure to clean it well before consuming it.
  • Cook your food thoroughly. Heat kills dangerous bacteria. Cooking your meat so that it is well done and sending back any rare or raw food will help you avoid cases of food poisoning.
  • Read about recent food recalls. You can sign up for regular emails that alert you to food recalls across the country. These recalls can help you avoid dangerous sources of certain foods and types of food that are often susceptible to bacteria.
  • Keep your kitchen clean. Bacteria can lurk on kitchen counters and in pots and pans. Be sure to clean your food preparation area often and wash your dishes well to prevent food poisoning.
  • Be even more careful if you are at risk. If you are elderly, if you are feeding young children, if you are pregnant, or if you have a compromised immune system, you may wish to avoid high-risk foods such as soft cheeses, rare meats, certain vegetables, and cold cuts.

Remember, no matter how diligent you are at preventing food poisoning, some cases are impossible to avoid. In these instances, it is vital that you understand why your food was tainted and who was responsible. Speak to a Texas product liability attorney today about your case by calling (214) 651-6100.
