Mushrooms Recalled Due to Possible Contamination

L.A. Link of Huntington Beach, CA recently recalled some of its Shitake-Ya Brand Shitake Slices due to possible contamination. According to a press release on the FDA.gov website, possible contamination with three different chemicals that are not approved on dried mushrooms was the impetus behind the recall.

Bad mushrooms on west coast.

The mushrooms in question were sold at Costco Wholesale locations in three states. The stores were located in California, Oregon and Washington. The affected batches have an expiration date of 04/16/2013. These are six ounce plastic jars of mushrooms.
The FDA conducts testing on foods regularly to ensure that they are up to standards. These particular batches of mushrooms were found to be contaminated with the chemicals carbendazim, fluoranthene, and pyrene. The recall action, however, is being taken by the company to head off any possible harm.

Contaminated foods.

Foods that are contaminated with chemicals or other substances sometimes pose significant risks to people's health. In the best case scenario, the company will do exactly what L.A Link is doing and recall the products from the market. This allows people to get compensated for the product and, of course, to hopefully prevent anybody from being harmed.
Companies can be held responsible when they do cause harm because of putting contaminated food on the market. There are some instances where foods are not withdrawn quickly enough and were people end up suffering from conditions such as food poisoning, chemical poisoning and other illnesses. Even mild cases of food poisoning can leave a healthy adult bed ridden for days. For the elderly and the very young, it's potentially deadly. The same holds true with contamination in that some populations are particularly vulnerable to being affected by dangerous chemicals in food.

Be aware of potential risks.

If you end up with food that is being recalled from the market, make certain to contact the phone number or e-mail address provided for the recall. This ensures that you can take advantage of whatever compensation they are offering for your purchase and that you can be made fully aware of any potential risks you and your family face.
If you have been injured because of contaminated food, be certain to contact an attorney. Companies can be held responsible for putting contaminated food on the market by being sued for the damages they have caused you. If you have been hurt because of contaminated food, an attorney may be able to help you file a lawsuit.
