The First of Many Vaginal Mesh Verdicts

Johnson & Johnson have been ordered to pay a South Dakota woman $3.35 million after a jury trial.

Linda Gross, 47, sued J&J and their subsidiary Ethicon for their product’s defective design, manufacture, warnings and instructions.
This is just one of 1,800 plus cases currently filed in regards to their transvaginal mesh. If this case is any indication, J&J shouldn’t put away their check book any time soon.
The Ethicon vaginal mesh implant was used to treat pelvic organ collapse, but was taken off shelves last year. Gross had the implant in 2008, but has since undergone 18 surgeries to repair the damage.
This jury verdict is no doubt a strong message that people will not stand for companies that place profit over our safety. With a hearing regarding punitive damages to be held shortly, this message will only be strengthened.
