Woman And Child Mauled By Pit Bulls Near Dallas

Two aggressive pit bulls attacked a three-year-old boy, the boy’s aunt, the rescuing paramedics, and two deputies in what officials are calling a very violent and prolonged dog attack in Mansfield, Texas.
The two pit bulls, both of which had lived at the residence for at least several months, first attacked a toddler in the front yard of the home. When she saw the dog attack taking place, the boy’s aunt threw herself on top of the boy and was then attacked by the two aggressive dogs herself. The woman finally got the boy into the house and called 911 – but the responding emergency workers were also confronted by the violent dogs. In fact, EMS were unable to reach the boy and woman inside the home because of the continuing aggression from the two pit bulls. When Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputies were also attacked, they fatally shot one dog and took the other into their custody. The remaining dog remains at Animal Control under quarantine.
The boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth in critical condition. His aunt was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with undisclosed dog bite injuries.
This dog bite case remains under investigation. It is unclear if anything spawned the dog attack or if either pit bull had a history of violent or aggressive behavior.
