Doctors Addicted To Drugs

Addicted Doctors: Could The Person Saving Your Life Be High On Drugs?

When William Stockton’s mother was in labor, she had no idea that the doctor caring for her was high on drugs. When she found out, years later, that the man responsible for her son’s severe birth injury had entered drug rehab just days after the his delivery, she immediately took steps to file a Texas medical malpractice lawsuit.
But how often are drunk or high doctors actively caring for patients, and how often do these drug addict doctors hurt the people they are supposed to be making better? According to records, it happens far too often. In one case, a woman who had abnormal test results didn’t get a cancer diagnosis for over a year because of her drugged doctor. In another case, an alcoholic doctor performed a shortcut stomach operation on a patient who suffered serious injuries because of the medical mistake.
Health experts believe that as many as one out of ten doctors struggle with some form of addiction – with the high stress of their job lending to more problems with drugs, and with the easy availability of prescription drugs making it simple to score dope. Shockingly, hundreds or even thousands of doctors in Texas are struggling with addiction – and many are practicing and even operating while high on drugs.
Recently, MSNBC did an investigative piece on drug addicted doctors that shed light on another problem: doctors with drug problems can confidentially enter into drug rehab programs – all while continuing to practice.
If you have been the victim of medical malpractice – and your doctor was addicted to drugs or alcohol at the time of the medical error, talk to a Texas medical malpractice attorney today.
