Texas Bar Could Be Partially Responsible For Drunk Driving Accident

A sports bar outside of Brownsville, Texas, is being investigated after a fatal car accident involving an under-aged drunk driver was tied back to the drinking establishment.

According to the Brownsville Herald, three women were allegedly drinking at the Upside Down Sports Bar & Grill on Friday night before they left to drive home after closing. Police believe that 18-year-old Crissy Nichole Guerra was driving, while 20-year-old Roxana Viridiana Sais and 20-year-old Michelle Barras.

At a few minutes after two in the morning on Saturday, Guerra lost control of the car on Ruben Torres Boulevard, left the roadway, and crashed into a railroad crossing sign. Guerra was treated at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville for a broken pelvis, while Barras was treated for a fractured arm. Sais was transferred to University Hospital in San Antonio in critical condition and later died of her car accident injuries.
Now, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is investigating whether or not the bar was partially at fault for the deadly accident because they were serving three under-aged patrons on the night of the crash. Guerra has been charged with manslaughter and intoxication assault. The Upside Down Bar & Grill was investigated for similar charges last year, but no evidence of under-aged drinking was found.
According to Texas' dram shop laws, businesses, bars, saloons, and liquor stores can be held responsible for drunk driving accidents or other injuries or death caused by an intoxicated patron.
