Seven Families File Injury Lawsuits After San Marcos Bus Crash

Seven families that had family members affected by the I-35 bus accident in San Marcos have filed personal injury lawsuits against the Dallas bus company Mares Bus Lines.
Rosa Moreno, the mother of a four-year-old girl who had to have her leg amputated after the crash, was the first to hire an injury attorney and file. Since then, Francisco Barboza, 63-year-old Celso Ortiz-Castillo, 57-year-old Maria Yolanda Serate-Delgado, 23-year-old Maria Moreno, and one-year-old Juan Moreno, have joined the lawsuit.
The Texas bus accident took place at four in the morning when 44-year-old bus driver Jesus Basio Ramirez fell asleep at the wheel shortly after making a stop. He ran off of the right side of the interstate, hit a sign, overcorrected, and caused the bus to tip onto its side. All in all, 17 people were injured.
The Texas bus company has been found in violation of a number of federal commercial bus regulations in recent years, and the driver himself has violated regulations twice since his employment. Many of the regulation violations involved logbook violations, unsafe driving, and driver fatigue.
This bus accident is one of a number of recent charter bus accidents that have occurred across the country in the past few months – resulting in an examination of bus safety regulations and standards.
