The construction industry is always on the move with regard to growth, providing plenty of opportunities to individuals skilled in different types of work such as roofing, plumbing, drywall installation and more. Unfortunately, construction work is also one of the most dangerous jobs. It's estimated that one in five worker deaths occur in the construction industry, and the majority of these deaths are the result of fall accidents.

Construction Workers & Fall Injuries

Fall accidents at the construction site.

Despite the availability of these jobs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, accidents on the construction site pose a very real threat to those who work in these kinds of environments. Construction falls are one of the major causes of catastrophic injuries as well as wrongful deaths on the job. While many companies are doing all they can to stop these accidents are happening, some companies still skirt the rules, putting the lives of workers at risk in favor of increasing their profits.
Construction workers who work at heights should always be properly trained, and provided with various safety devices designed to avoid serious fall accidents while at work. For example:

  1. Harnesses keep the worker attached to a structure or anchor and do a good job at absorbing and distributing energy during a fall, preventing the worker from falling from the structure or scaffolding.
  2. Lanyards are also used often as additions to harnesses. They are attached a rope grab which in turn attaches to a harness. It ensures that the individual never falls a distance of more than 6 feet.
  3. Suspended scaffolding is usually fitted with an arrest system which springs into action if the scaffolding fails.
  4. Hardhats are required in areas which are susceptible to falling objects and prevent injuries to workers on the ground.

Construction falls can vary in terms of circumstances and severity. For example, a worker may fall from one scaffolding level to another below, or they can fall through a roof and onto the floor of the house being constructed. Alternatively, they could fall off a ladder or a lift on site, or they could fall when scaffolding fails. Many workers are also injured as a result of a falling object.
Some of the injuries that are common with construction site falls include head injuries, broken bones, internal organ injury, spinal injuries, broken ankles and more. In some serious cases, one can become paralyzed and unable to resume work as a result of such an injury. Your attorney's job is to make sure that you and your family are compensated for every last penny that you've lost as a result of the accident, including lost wages and future income.
