How companies are employing dangerous drivers

Many people assume that if they are involved in a Dallas-Fort Worth truck accident (which is obviously the truck driver’s fault) only the trucker is responsible for damages. However, you also have to consider that the trucking company employing the trucker might be to blame. After all, didn’t they hire the dangerous trucker in the first place?
Let’s take a closer look at bad truck company hiring practices and how they can lead to Dallas truck accidents and truck accident injuries:

  • Hiring drivers without a valid commercial license. It sounds shocking, but it’s true. Some trucking companies have hired drivers who have never had a trucking license or who have had their license revoked or expired. These drivers may not be experienced or may have a history of serious infractions.
  • Hiring drivers with a history of serious traffic infractions. All too often, we hear about trucking accidents in which the trucker has a history of driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, speeding, or falling asleep behind the wheel – either behind the wheel of a truck or behind the wheel of a personal vehicle. Sadly, that information isn’t enough to stop some truck companies from hiring these drivers.
  • Hiring drivers with a history of truck accidents. Has the trucker that struck your vehicle been in a similar accident in the past? Did the trucking company know about the accident or accidents? Did the trucking company do anything about it? These are all important questions to ask after a big rig accident.
  • Hiring drivers without conducting a background check. Some trucking companies will hire an inexperienced or historically dangerous driver after discovering their past – but some trucking companies won’t vet their truckers in the first place. They will simply hire drivers without even investigating whether or not they will be safe on the road.

It is always a mistake to assume that you know who is at fault for your Texas truck accident or to just assume that the trucker who hit you is solely to blame. A Dallas truck wreck lawyer can look at the evidence in your case and let you know if poor trucking company hiring practices may have been a factor in your accident and injury.
