Deadly Motorcycle Crashes in Texas

Edom, TX - Ben Wheeler Man Dies in Truck-Motorcycle Crash on FM 279

There are few feelings that rival hitting the open road on the back of a motorcycle. Unfortunately, most riders know that this unique feeling comes with serious risks. Motorcycle crashes are known for resulting in life-changing injuries for those involved. Statistics show that a motorcyclist is killed every day on Texas roadways, and in 2022, there were 562 riders killed in collisions across the state. Another 2,422 motorcyclists were hurt in crashes that year. More than half of deadly motorcycle accidents involve other vehicles, and the rate of deadly motorcycle accidents in Texas rapidly increased by almost 12 percent from 2017 to 2021. Due to the lack of protection provided to riders, motorcyclists are at greater risk of being seriously injured in the event of a crash. A rider can be completely thrown off their bike after a collision, and motorcyclists can be killed in an accident even if they are wearing a helmet. In most motorcycle crashes, the other driver shares some degree of fault. The other driver will often claim that they were unable to see the rider, but this offers little comfort to families who are dealing with a deadly motorcycle crash.
