Young Woman Killed and Man Injured When Apartment Railing Fails

A 26-year-old Mansfield woman died Sunday night when the railing on the third story balcony she was standing on gave way.  A man was also injured in the fall and his status is not readily available. Alisha Wilhite and the unidentified male were both taken to Parkland hospital where Alisha was pronounced dead.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Alisha and the other young man who was also injured on Sunday night.
The tragic accident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the Mansions at Sunset Ridge apartments in Carrollton, Texas.  Initial reports say that the bracket holding the railing broke, causing both of them to fall three stories to the ground below.
There will undoubtedly be a full investigation into what happened, but one thing is clear, accidents such as this are heartbreaking and are completely avoidable.  An apartment balcony railing should never fail in this manner.  Our premise liability attorneys highly suggest the apartment and the authorities to do a full investigation of what caused this tragedy and to take steps to ensure that other railings in the large apartment complex are tested to make certain they are up to code and future accidents can be avoided.
All involved with the design, building and management of residential properties are responsible to ensure that their properties are safe for residents and their guests.  If there was a failure to do so, the families of those involved may exercise their right to file a lawsuit for negligence and wrongful death.
