Statistics show that around ten victims lose their lives in unexpected collisions every day in the state of Texas. In the majority of cases, driver error is the cause. When drivers are distracted, drive recklessly, driving while intoxicated, and engage in other activities while operating their vehicles, they place the lives of others sharing the road at immense risk for being injured or killed. Several victims who lose their lives in these collisions are on bicycles traveling along roadways. Although we want to believe that everyone recovers from their injuries, this is far from the truth. In fact, thousands of people end up passing away due to injuries sustained in car accidents throughout our state each year.
The unfortunate truth is that more than 10 people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents here in Texas every day. These incidents add up to more than 3,600 lives lost annually as a result of traffic-related incidents. Although there are numerous laws in place to protect bicyclists, we continue to see these riders lose their lives at an alarming rate. In most cases, victims are harmed and killed in accidents that are completely preventable. Many victims suffer fatal injuries in collisions as a result of the negligent or reckless actions of others.
